Excerpts
Painting usually comes from a desire to eternalize - a moment, a feeling, an unrelenting passion that begs to be remembered. Even though it’s always finite, we do our best to give it a prolonged destiny. But on the street, it’s different. Those who paint in the street do it knowing their work might be erased, sometimes just minutes later. And still, they do it. It’s a disruptive, irreverent, even masochistic act. The street artist is complicit in their own impermanence - they play with it, challenge it, and are challenged in return. A rhythm emerges, as fast-paced as the city itself, between what can be created, erased, and recreated. Bodies move, brows furrow: there’s a friendly tension between vandalism and vanguard. And the wall, erased time and time again, always reveals its truth: that a wall is a canvas that awaits its ruin.
In this exhibition, Kilos brings the interactivity of the outdoors into indoor walls. Each viewer is invited to cut out the pieces they connect with the most. From the impermanence of the whole, which will disappear with time, perhaps small eternities will emerge - new lives, with new walls around them.
